Larisa is one of the most popular influencers in nutrition and health from Romania. She is Health Coach, founder of reLife Wellness, Food Revolution ambassador (international program on nutritional education initiated by Jamie Oliver), host of Sanatatea FM, a weekly radio show at rfi and many more. With over 10 years of experience, she organizes workshops for those who want to learn more about their bodies and their health before reaching the doctor, or for those who just want more energy and vitality in their bodies. In short, she teaches how to sleep well, to eat better, to hydrate more appropriately and to overall simplify your life.
“I am not a supporter of diets and I strongly believe that we should avoid them. A health coach aims to help people improve their lifestyle, even if this takes longer than a diet. Results appear after a few months, but they are sustainable,” says Larisa. She is proposing creative solutions to educate adults and children alike in eliminating junk food from their diets. We asked her which is the first thing that we should learn in order to start our transformation towards healthier eating? “I think that the most important starting point is returning to the habit of cooking at home!”
Cooking at home increases our responsibility towards choosing what ingredients to use. Additionally, we increase our control over the proportion of ingredients we use. “We have to realize that it is much easier to cook than we think. We offer education in the sense that we show people very, very simple ideas for cooking delicious meals, great also for children, which you can implement in maximum 10 to 15 minutes. I have noticed many times, during my workshops, that not all people can be creative in the kitchen. But when you give them ideas on how to combine certain ingredients, on how to make healthier sandwiches, salads or more special dressings, they are pleasantly surprised and oftentimes want to implement those ideas right away.”
“It is also very important to talk about the dangers of processed products, because 80% of the products we find on the shelf nowadays, did not exist 100 years ago,” adds Larisa. “For instance, one of the most important issues today is sugar: a child should only consume an average of 6-7 teaspoons of sugar and they get to take in 37 every day. So, we are talking about a huge difference, from this point of view. We find sugar in the most unexpected products, even in bread and we are not always conscious about those values, because there is no one to tell us, nobody is explaining to us that a glass of apparently healthy, cold pressed juice can contain up to 9 teaspoons of sugar. So, there are a lot of things to be done in this area, one of them being our wish, at Food Revolution, to obtain total transparency of ingredients on each product.”
When we asked her what is her opinion on life hacking, Larisa shared: “as the World Health Organisation says, 80% of the diseases we contract during our lifetimes are related to our lifestyle. In other words, we hold in our hands a magical remote and we can make beneficial decisions so that our lifestyle allows us to bypass health issues. On the other hand, I strongly believe that education must be made using a language that the receiver uses to get the message!”
