Jason is a US born life hacker, who has embarked on travelling around the world in 2008 in order to live a more fulfilling life. He can identify the origins of his new life with pinpoint accuracy: “My life at 17 was: I do the same things every day, I am not eating healthy, I get stressed about everything, even for things I really didn’t care about, I worry I couldn’t become successful, whatever that means. I was around the same people who didn’t seem to help me. So I decided to make a list of how I wanted my life to look like – it was a list that came from my heart: I want to feel freedom, I want to travel a lot, I want to meet new people, I want to learn from them, I want to learn foreign languages and I want to be, I just want to be! I decided that I needed to change something, so I chose travelling, as one thing that could help me with a lot of my objectives.”
Having walked numerous miles (including Camino de Santiago), hitchhiked over 100,000 kilometers in over 1500 vehicles on 4 continents, we can safely say that he accomplished that goal! When thinking about his time spent travelling, Jason recalls: “it was beautiful to be concerned with little more than where to eat and sleep every day, to understand just how little I needed to be happy and to live completely in the moment.” Along his way, he learned and is now fluent in 7 foreign languages, thus accomplishing another important goal he had set for himself. Additionally, he discovered Arnold Ehret’s Mucusless Diet Healing System which he uses as his life hack and path to self-knowledge.
Since 2016, he is living in Bucharest and is one of the managers at Podstel, which was named best hostel in Romania, in 2018. We were quite impressed by his uncommon life story so we asked him where did he get the courage to embark on such an adventure? “I think most importantly is to question something that you think you need. For example, you say you need money, but what do you actually want it for? Define clearly what you want and use that as objective to get you moving on. Clarity of your purpose is everything!”
When talking about living a meaningful life, but also about life hacking, Jason returned to the important part people around him have played in shaping who he currently is: “You can’t assume anything from anyone and you shouldn’t judge. Just keep your eyes open for people who want to help you and are excited about that. When you find them, join the ride, either literally or not.”
Get to meet Jason during the first panel discussion of LifeHax #1, happening on March 23rd 2018, at CinemaPRO.
